Some of you prolly remember something like 2 years ago around December I collected all those mp3 players and loaded them up with music from the 30's - 70's and tried to donate them to old people with like alzheimers and dimensia and shit... then I got carried away with it and started making pages for people nothing major just like the homie owned a 3 tonne truck and was moving for cash under the table... so I set him up with a facebook page one thing lead to another he ended up an independant owner/operator of a small business all legit and licensed and insured... So when my long time homie from wayyyy back when "Young Dre" hit me up asking me if I could "do some nerd shit for his page" I didnt even really think about it was like auto pilot "yezzir" and a nod or some shit... but he already had his stuff all set up tbh so thats where I got to thinking the real issue here is a serious lack of promotion for artists in canada... Not gonna lie, the homie "Detekt" put me onto the podcast Tax Season maybe a month before this happened so I googled it and I found some youtube series' that were sort of related but as far as I saw there wasnt already anything like this in Canada... so me being me... busy af and set in my ways thought "I'll tell the homie and he can get someone from the rap / dj scene to do something like this... Promoters are always asking for a share or a like right... this would be perfect I thought... anyways somehow through me offering to set it up for "Detekt" and scheduling the interview with "Young Dre" I ended up getting stuck with a podcast and no host and a guest who refused to just copy an interview out of a magazine... shit you not he says "nah if we're doing this, youre doing this, lets go Tony put your podcaster hat on and start asking some questions" and yeah fuckit I just rolled with it... we actually recorded us talking over top of the beats playing off a ghetto blaster.  So that night I had like 5 friends all right away message me like "I wanna do the thing you did with Dre" and honestly I was in my head like "fuck this I am not getting stuck holding this bag" that night I went to bed thinking I could maybe pass this off to someone, or just delete it (leave the homies episode up just seperate myself from the shit), or maybe do a couple for my friends and see where it goes. That morning I get woken up at 4am to someone screaming something about "blood gang, on the set, for the dead homies, fuck your hood" apparently connected to the page so by my first cup of coffee I was already thinking fuck this shit, juice aint worth the squeeze... no dice... and I literally had everyone cancel except the 2 homies that I asked if they wanted to do interviews (from the filthy clean pros - but they the homies tho) people saying shit like "nah homie Im too big to be doing little podcasts and shit I gotta make moves" (I shit you not same motherfucker asked me to like a post he made that afternoon... but Im not trippin Im like ok when I get back from smoking with my homie Im just gonna delete all that shit and we're smoking and I got 3 messages from people I didnt even mention this to, who I follow, who's music I fuck with, people with friend's lists that are maxed out just 5000 fans attached to them saying they like what Im doing they respect why Im doing it and that when they get time in their schedule we are gonna sit down and burn one and chop up a brick for real... now I support artists but I dont consider myself a fan like I wont sleep outside in the rain to get a ticket to a show and nobody is signing my chest or ass with a sharpie... but still... I thought that would be fucking dope... this little project born outta love for the culture trying to support the homies who contribute to it... attracting artists who I rate heavily... and them showing love for my little thing... cant lie... it tripped me out... so I did the next two interviews and insights popped up telling me where I could watch my activity in numbers... my reach was like just under 5k... I think it was like 4800 and change... on my page... friends list... 104 people (and that for me is like 4 too many most of the time) so thats when I knew... this might not be for me... maybe I go back to what I was doing... the hustle thing... sell ice to eskimos or whatever... but the culture in Canada needs the promotion, people are hungry for the content, it definitely has potential, From this platform Ive reached out through my network and connected with DJ Denise from the Urban Renewal Project which is on coop radio in vancouver tuesday nights from 10pm - 12am and she generously offered to cohost my episodes for me... B-Nogz hit me up like he was down with the program and what I was doing and if I was interested he would roll through and take pictures for me (like professional photographer level flicks too)... I intereviewed the division leader for baxwar on the island and rocco himself texted me saying if I want an interview with him I should come out to east van and then when I agreed he lets me use his shop for the entire day to interview a gang of artists... so much stuff just fell into place as if this was meant to be... and that is just me keeping it all the way 100 with you on how we got here... as for what I have lined up for 2017... you'll just have to wait and see. All I can say is when I say "we" Im actually referring to a group of people I've connected with who all on some level bring something to the table as far as a professional skill goes as well as a passion for the culture and a respect for what Im doing here. "Together we are going to overcome ignorace" but for now we're choppin these bricks. 100.
